Today I had booked 3 different lectures to help me gain more knowledge.
I first attended a lecture on " Key skills for writing journals, essays and blogs." it was helpful and I learnt new information such as, it's never wrong to start a sentence with ' and ' . We are all taught right from primary school that this is incorrect, however it is not. I leant that it is important to look out for grammar , Plural and singular verbs and keeping text short and concise gives it a better tone. The knowledge gained from this lecture will be very helpful for me when writing my dissertation.
I then went to a fashion photography lesson which talked about the history of photography and the fashion industry.
The topics covered were: Aspiration, stress. sex and power and youth. Old fashion photography is very stiff and positioned. It only showed the cloths, due to the limitations on cameras, eg: coco channels 1930 shoot.
Early magazines such as couture shoot 1957 Cecil Beaton - the photography is elevated to a classical level, the models were all middle upper class, so the locations were in areas the models were comfortable in. Photography before hand was very slow, It was never about showing off the model it was always staged, it was to show off the clothes.
Finally I attended a very interesting lecture which I had not intended to go to but I was advised to. It was about business management and it talked about the needs of a business, how to run them and the help that is available. This class is run every Wednesday over the course of 10 weeks, and I have made the decision and commitment to attend them as I am very interested in starting my own business. I was able to talk to the external lecturers and gain an insight. they complimented my business idea and assured me that there is potential.
Overall, today was a very busy day, I was extremely tired and I needed to rest, but I was very pleased with all the valuable knowledge I gained as I felt more secure in my future goals.
